The DePaul College Prep School Counseling Program is committed to fostering the holistic development of each student in alignment with DePaul College Prep’s Vincentian Catholic framework.
In partnership with families, faculty, and the broader community, we provide a comprehensive, data-driven counseling program that emphasizes academic achievement, college and career readiness, and social-emotional well-being.
Guided by our core values of Faith, Respect, Excellence, Service, and Health, we strive to create an inclusive environment where all students are empowered to realize their potential and prepared to meet the challenges of the world with integrity, empathy, and purpose.
By encouraging independence, resilience, and moral responsibility, we empower students to become confident self-advocates and compassionate leaders.
Individual Counseling
School Counselors take a holistic approach, working with students in the academic, personal/social, and college/career realms.
List of 3 items.
Academic
School counselors monitor student grades, and help students identify strategies and work on goals that will help them leverage their strengths, learn self-advocacy skills, and create a four-year academic plan that suits their interests and future planning.
Personal/Social
School counselors work with students on self-management, emotional regulation, and assist students dealing with a mental health crisis. When appropriate, counselors work in partnership with parents and the school social worker to connect students with outside support.
College/Career
School counselors begin working with students on future planning as early as the ninth grade with academic planning, encouraging students to explore interests through extracurricular activities and summer programs, and through goal setting. Starting in junior year, students will also begin working with a college counselor. The two counseling teams collaborate to support students through the college search and application process.
Grade 9 is about getting to know yourself better, as a student and member of your school community, including learning more about your strengths and interests.
In grade 10, you have a better understanding of how to navigate high school and how you can get involved, and now is a great time to make sure you are connecting your interests and strengths with your involvement in school clubs and activities, and to deepen your involvement in your classes and your extracurriculars.
Grade 11 kicks the postsecondary planning into higher gear, and you’ll be doing research and reflection so that you are ready to take on this challenge. You’ll also start meeting with your college counselor.
In your last year of high school, you’ll be putting your plans into action, taking part in important traditions, and preparing for the transition to the next step.
