Growing Together in Faith and Purpose

Retreats are an integral part of the curriculum at DePaul College Prep. As part of the retreat experience, students will come to know more about their relationship with self, God, and others. Freshmen participate in both a fall and spring mini-retreat plus an introduction to ritual and the Catholic Mass. Sophomore Retreat is a full school day and includes an art & architecture “scavenger hunt” followed by Mass at Saint Vincent de Paul Parish. Juniors take part in a 3-day Kairos Retreat. Seniors select from a variety of retreat options.

FALL: Planting Seeds: Hopes, Growth, and Legacy within The Parable of the Sower
Our first year retreat focuses on building community, identifying support systems, and laying healthy foundations for growth. Within the framework of the parable, students reflect on their first year experience and look ahead to who they want to be at graduation. Led by peer leaders from the Junior class, connections are made between what unique gifts and talents each student has to offer our community, our Vincentian Catholic identity, and our Core Values.

SPRING: Living a Sacramental Life: Engaging the Senses for Meaning-Making and Connecting with the Divine
Rooted in the Catholic approach to sacramentality, students reflect on how music, movement, aromas, bread breaking and more help us to make meaning of what is special in our lives and where God is present.
  • Sophomore Year

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made: Identity and Values as Beloved Creations
Held during a school day in January, the Sophomore Retreat encourages students to think more deeply about their evolving identities and value systems. After reflecting in small groups led by peer leaders from the Junior class, students engage with the larger group to make connections between their own dearly held values and the greater Vincentian Mission plus our school’s FRESH Core Values. The afternoon is spent in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Chris Robinson CM for an art & architecture scavenger hunt, Q&A and Mass.
  • Junior Year

A long standing tradition of Catholic high schools, Kairos allows older students to deepen their connection with themselves, their peers, and their faith. Held off campus at Loyola University’s Retreat and Ecology Campus on a Wednesday through Friday, Kairos is an invaluable component of the practices of self reflection, emotional growth, and maturing faith that DePaul Prep offers. This is an intense three-day program that encourages self-reflection and community building, and challenges students to live more active, faith-filled lives. The cost of this retreat is included in tuition.
  • Senior Year

Senior programming focuses on giving 12th grade students variety and choice for their final retreat with DePaul Prep. After exploring their maturing faith on Kairos during their Junior year, Mission and Ministry's Senior Choice Retreats offer diverse themes and formats that allow students to engage with a topic to the degree that fits their interests and needs.

Sessions include: Art and Spirituality (afternoon spent at the Art Institute of Chicago), Darst Center Service Immersion (2 nights), Men's or Women's Retreat (single day or overnight), Vincentian Graduate (single day or overnight).

Leading a Junior Kairos Retreat also fulfills the Senior Retreat requirement.
