DePaul College Prep seeks to continually develop and implement programs that use digital technologies to promote responsible global citizenship, 21st-century skills, and the ability to use technology to improve our world.
iPads
The goal of our iPad program is to support students and teachers in engaging critically with course content both on and off campus. iPads are essential to our learning here at DePaul Prep and are mandatory for all students.
School Issued iPads
Beginning in the 2026–2027 academic year, DePaul Prep will transition to a school-issued iPad program starting with the Class of 2030 and all subsequent classes. Each incoming student will be provided a DePaul Prep iPad to use throughout their four years. Participation is mandatory, and personal iPads will no longer be permitted or supported. This program will roll out with each new freshman class moving forward and does not apply to the Classes of 2027, 2028, and 2029.
Families will pay a one-time, nonrefundable fee of $800 during the student’s freshman year. No additional fees are charged for the student’s sophomore-senior year. Payment can be made in full or spread over 10 months on the tuition statement during the student’s freshman year. The fee is approximately $150 less than if the items were purchased individually by families.
If a device is damaged, students should contact DePaul Prep's Technology Department immediately for repair or replacement. Each device comes with AppleCare+, which provides coverage for up to two repairs or replacements annually, subject to Apple's determination. If the damage exceeds the AppleCare+ limit or falls outside its scope, families will incur a Device Fee for repair or replacement unless coverage is provided by optional device insurance, which parents may purchase for an annual fee when the device is initially picked up.
Device Replacement: If a student’s device is damaged, it can be swapped for a loaner on-site through DePaul Prep’s Technology Department up to twice a year, reducing disruptions to academic work. The original device will be returned to the student once it is repaired.
Up to Two Replacements per Year: With AppleCare+, the device can be returned or replaced up to twice per year if it is damaged beyond normal wear and tear. If the damage exceeds this limit, the family will be assessed an additional Device Fee for a replacement device, unless optional device insurance was purchased at the time of possession.
Note: AppleCare+ does not cover lost or stolen devices.
Parents or guardians can choose to buy annual device insurance when accepting the device. This coverage protects against loss or theft. If no insurance is purchased and the device is lost or stolen, the family must replace it by paying a device fee set by the tech office.
Upon Graduation: When your student graduates, they will have the opportunity to buy the iPad for $50. Until then, DePaul Prep retains ownership of the device.
Before Graduation: No portion of the $800 fee is refundable. If your student leaves DePaul Prep before graduating, there will be a $50 fee to release the device to the student. No refunds will be given. If the student leaves during freshman year with a balance due on the $800 nonrefundable fee, the school reserves the right to charge the balance due, plus the $50 release fee, to allow the student to take the device when they leave DePaul Prep.
Class of 2027, 2028, & 2029
Students from the class of 2027, 2028, & 2029 are required to provide their own iPad for student use.
For the 2026-2027 school year, we recommend the iPad 11 (A16), wifi only. Cellular data is not allowed. The minimum requirements are 256GB of storage, a case with a keyboard, and a stylus. We also recommend an Apple Pencil (USB-C) and AppleCare+.
Schoology is our Learning Management System (LMS) where students and families can find course information, assignments, grades, announcements from DePaul Prep, and much more.
Jamf School ensures students are focused and engaged. It is a powerful teaching assistant that helps guide students through a lesson, allows teachers to provide appropriate apps for school use, and keeps students on track while in the classroom. In the classroom, when teachers choose to use Jamf Teacher, it allows them to do the following:
Safelist apps used during the lesson;
Send messages directly to students to provide in the moment, private support;
Create an attention screen;
Share links; and more.
All features of Jamf School are only available when a teacher chooses to enable them during their class time. It is removed when the student leaves the class and doesn’t follow them home.
Why are we using Jamf School?
Jamf School is an exclusive Apple solution that helps schools maximize the learning potential of iPad and Mac. This tool gives our teachers and IT staff the ability to ensure students and teachers have the apps they need while safeguarding students and their privacy. Importantly, Jamf School allows teachers and IT staff to suspend access to certain apps or web pages that are primarily used for social media, gaming, and/or streaming services during class time. For example, a teacher can restrict access to Snapchat during class using Jamf School. This eliminates students inappropriately accessing social media and VPNs during instructional time in the classroom which is both disruptive to teaching and time consuming for the IT staff to shut down.
Jamf School does not:
Collect or store any student data.
Require your child to download anything or install any spyware to his/her iPad.
Grant faculty or staff access to any private files on the iPad.
Give faculty remote access to your child’s screen
If you have any questions, please contact Theresa Allen, Director of Information Technology.
The Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA) ensures that student data is protected when used by educational technology vendors. Our school is committed to complying with SOPPA to safeguard your child's personal information, ensuring it is used only for educational purposes and kept secure. We maintain a Google Sheet that details our approved vendors, ensuring all practices meet legal standards and protect student privacy.
