Construction Begins on the new Athletic Complex!
The groundbreaking ceremony and liturgy marking the start of construction of DePaul College Prep's $32 million indoor Athletics Complex was held on April 9, 2026, before an audience of hundreds of supporters and friends. His Eminence Blase Cardinal Cupich presided over the liturgy and blessed the project.
Speakers at the event included Board Chair Joe Haugh, President Mary Dempsey, Athletic Director Patrick Mahoney, and Boys Varsity Basketball Coach and Director of Admissions Tom Kleinschmidt.
The 74,600 sq. foot complex was designed by Moody Nolan Architects and will be constructed by Bulley & Andrews contractors. Construction is expected to be completed by Fall 2027. The complex will consist of a 1,100-seat competition gym, multi-court fieldhouse, track, wrestling room, strength and weight training room, and locker rooms for PE and competitive sports. It was announced at the ceremony that the competition court in the main gym will be named in honor of Tom Kleinschmidt in recognition of his more than 12 years of mentorship and leadership of athletes and non-athletes and three straight IHSA boys basketball championships at DePaul Prep.
Funding for the construction of the athletic complex is being raised through the One Dream All In capital campaign. Since 2020, more than $59 million has been raised through the campaign thanks to generous support from the Board of Directors; past, present, and future DePaul Prep families; foundations; and corporate sponsors. The funds were used per the donors’ instructions to construct academic facilities, the outdoor stadium, the indoor athletic complex, and to create an endowment for the school. The campaign is in its final stages to raise the remaining $6 million needed to complete the indoor athletic complex project.
