About

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

A Community of Belonging

The Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion supports DePaul College Prep's diverse community by working with all constituencies of the school to create the most inclusive Community of Belonging. This work is guided by DePaul Prep's Mission and Core Values. We strive to affirm identity, make culture more palpable, create brave spaces for understanding through academics, and engage the community in meaningful dialogue around equity and social justice. As a faith-based institution, we aspire to move with purpose and conviction toward the utmost level of inclusion.

  • Curriculum

Our goal is to continually enrich a curriculum that fosters learning, sharing, and dialogue around our identities as individuals and as a school community. Through this framework, we empower students to deeply value the diverse student body at DePaul Prep and engage meaningfully with the broader world.

Monthly Faculty Professional Development (within the lens of Equity and Inclusion) provides an opportunity to share classroom practices and resources for inclusionary and equitable practices.

  • Representation & Access Matter at School

At its center, a faith-based learning community should be a transformational space, not a transactional one.

By embracing this philosophy, DePaul College Prep outlined the below aspirations to live out our core value of Respect and further our culture of inclusion:

    • Close representation gaps for historically underrepresented groups.
    • Increase the People of Color (student body and faculty/admin) representation rate to reflect the City of Chicago.
    • Report diversity metrics and progress annually.
    • Advance common understanding, shared experiences and our core value of Respect.
  • Measuring Diversity & Equity

Actions we are taking to achieve these aspirations:

    • Identifying where representation falls short of benchmarks and developing specific action plans to close them.
    • Facilitating in-house racial justice and culturally responsive instruction for faculty and staff and via partnerships with organizations such as Facing History and Ourselves and SEED.
    • Incorporating equity and justice-oriented themes into all aspects of learning (adult-to-student, student-to-student and adult-to-adult).
    • Surveying the student body, faculty, and staff about their thoughts and feelings on equity and inclusion at DePaul Prep.

Ellen Meents-Decaigny, Class of 2021 Parent

The diversity of the DePaul Prep community is one of DePaul Prep's greatest strengths because it is this community that pushes the administrators, the teachers and the students to keep diversity, equity and inclusion at the forefront of what they do and how they act.
