Living the Vincentian Mission

Rooted in the transformative social service legacy of Saint Vincent de Paul and Saint Louise de Marillac, Experiential Service and community engagement are integral parts of a DePaul College Prep education. Each student participates in, and reflects on, a variety of service projects as part of their formation toward living as a mission-driven adult.

DePaul Prep Student, Class of 2026

At DePaul College Prep, we are taught that it is not enough to do something for the sake of doing it. Instead, it must be done well. We serve others simply to spread the love of God and build relationships, because we are all God’s children.

Students who complete 75 hours of service engagement (50 at an area non-profit and 25 at DePaul Prep) over their 4 years will be eligible to receive honors cords at graduation. Hours that qualify a student for honors cords must be completed at Chicago non-profit organizations, highlighting the Vincentian Charism of serving those on the margins.
  • The Vincentian Service Award

Given each year to one graduating student who is recognized for an exceptional level of community service, both in hours and impact. This student instinctively responds to the central Vincentian question, "What must be done?" and takes action with joy and enthusiasm. This student recognizes that "it is not enough to do good, it myst be done well," taking ownership of the health and well-being of the people they serve.
